Foreman: Grading, Pipe & Pipe Laying, Paving

Foremen oversee field crews in grading, pipe laying, and paving, ensuring each phase of work is done safely, accurately, and on schedule. They interpret plans, manage resources, and guide team members in the field—serving as the link between project management and hands-on execution to maintain quality and productivity on every job.
• Safety Compliance and Awareness - Managing Safety with the Crews is the most important aspect of the Foreman.
• Monitors the implementation of safety practices and procedures, provides coaching for improvement.
• Responsible for general and specific safety practices, following company safety manual procedures, and cooperating with our safety representative in a positive pro-active manner.
• Supervises field operations for Utility/Earthwork/Roadway/Grading project The Field Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate activities of crew(s) and may also engage in the trade work of the employees being supervised.
• Directly supervises Grading/Utility crew(s).
• Reports on work to Superintendent.
• Assist Superintendent in preparing detailed schedule and maintaining schedule throughout the project.
• All project activities should be approached from an economic perspective and justified by being able to be illustrated by the cost versus production analysis.
• Experienced on all types of heavy equipment for dirt and site projects.
• Limited time on machines and more direct supervision.
• Knowledgeable in the areas of dirt work, including excavation, grade work, utility work, surveying, and final excavating work.
• Prepare site safety, security, and maintenance of traffic and erosion control.
• Work with Superintendent to prepare work sequence with detailed plan of attack utilizing work crews as efficiently as possible prior to mobilization.
• Read, understand, and interpret drawings and specifications and Work Order.
• Review and understand detailed list of Subcontracts and Purchase Orders along with contacts with Project Manager prior to the start of the job. "Pre-Con".
• Work with Superintendents to coordinate construction activities with local officials (engineering, service dept, fire, police, zoning, etc.) to keep Independence in good standin with the local government and residents.
• Utilize all company resources to their most efficient, practical use. Notify Superintendent when equipment/resources are available. Consider Independence Excavating resources from a 'company' not just project perspective.
• Recognizes and immediately reports any requests for extra work.
• Monitor production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects.
• Monitors crews for organizational structure, sizing, crew mix ratios, and wage compliance in conjunction with Superintendent.
• Assures the proper storage of materials and rented equipment, including regular checks of job for material and equipment inventory.
• Complete Field Logs daily with Accuracy including Hourly Labor, Equipment Use and Materials. Photograph work performed as needed.
